Competition Bodies Instigate Proceedings Against Various Companies In The Perfume And Cosmetics Sector

26 June 2008

On 17th and 19th June, without prior notice, members of the inspection unit of the National Competition Commission appeared, with the aim of investigating three possible anticompetitive agreements in the gel, toothpaste and professional hair products markets.

The Commission has agreed to act on the basis that are sufficient indications of possible anticompetitive practice consistent with practice designed to fix prices in the country and/or agree communal commercial practice.

The inspections are not prejudging the matter and are merely part of the proceedings; However, should any activities prohibited by Defence of the Competition Law be detected, they may be punished with fines of up to 10% of the total turnover for the financial year immediately preceding the year in which the fine is assigned.
