The Government Helps the Road Transport Sector By Allowing Payment of Social Security Contributions In Instalments To Lessen the Effect Of Rising Petrol Prices

1 September 2008

With the intention of helping the sector, softening the blow of rising petrol prices, the Government have passed the Resolution of June 26, 2008 (B.O.E. July 4, 2008), enabling, for one part, all companies in the sector, including both cargo and passenger companies, having active employees, to delay the payment of the company contributions for two years from the period between June 2008 and May 2009. As a result, these contributions must be paid monthly from July 2010 until June 2011. This is without prejudice to the company continuing to deduct and retain the contributions corresponding to the employee, submitting the amount in the established timescale.

Secondly, independent workers in the sector are allowed to enjoy the same benefits with regards to Social Security payments, with the condition that the deferred payments are made on a monthly basis between the months of June 2010 and May 2011.

To obtain the aforementioned aid, an application must be made to the office of the corresponding Provincial Bureau of the General Treasury of Social Security.
